Vagus-Lupus

Neo-Angelo, or "What happened to those who vanished?" It was the week-end of the End of Times. Yeah, that sounds dramatic enough to start off with. As I said, it was the week-end, or what we call the two days after Friday and before Monday, when this tale began. Since the dawn of that odd year, everyone on the face of the planet had been expecting the "Great End of Times" as prophesized by a powerful and ancient civilization that preceded us. Some to ridicule those who did believe the World would end, others to preview the next era of terrestrial life. Many simply wanted to vanish. That day didn't come. Nope, that day passed by normally.

      I am Death, taker of all existences! Yeah, right, at least I wish I was. Wouldn't that please all the Mortals that venerate me? I guess being the gatekeeper between worlds isn't so bad. I, at least, get to chose were each and every soul goes after my sister disconnects it from the body. Life's kiss is the only way a soul is set free. Only she can truly free a person from the burden of living. Of course I get to chose were the soul goes after that. I make the choice based on the words, the actions, the omissions and the thoughts the Mortal had during her, or his, existence. Harsh requisites? I know, but, know this, the truly righteous

 Here I lay, alone tonight, on my deathbed. I have no children, and no Love, for someone to mourn me. Yet in this cold room, this sterile room that has claimed so many lives before mine, is filled with the heartbeats, the sighs, the laughter and the flowers from those who will mourn me. Those who have no blood link to me those, who tonight have gone to rest. I only have 18 autumns behind me and now I am at my end. For me, it is unfair to die so young.       At the beginning of all, we were made. We are called Eternals, entities invented by God to keep the created worlds running cleanly. The worlds turn and follow their paths of existence unaware of our job at helping them. I am Time oldest of all living Eternals, keeper of all knowledge and the compiler of these chronicles.      At first I saw no necessity to write all that I know. Who, besides us Eternals, would ever read it?  He sighed deeply. The questions continued to haunt him, more so now that it was four o'clock in the afternoon. Why had that progression of cards appeared? Why did it appear today in the same hand? As he shook the excess water off his hands, he gazed at his own reflection whispering, "Maybe I just shuffled the deck all wrong." Before he could look away, his reflection responded. "No. You know very well how these things work." Yes he knew how luck worked. Well, he kind of did.      He knew the deck was shuffled properly because he used his feelings as a gauge. He knew each card was drawn face-down and arranged in the pentagram formation.
